Our European HR Director, Sharon Bridgland-Gough, was recently recognized with one of the UK HR industry’s most celebrated awards: Personnel Today’s HR Director of the Year. This well-deserved award is a testament to Sharon’s hard work and success as part of the Cardtronics team, since she joined us in 2014.
To better understand how meaningful this award is for Sharon as well as the HR department and Cardtronics UK as a whole, it is important to look back at the significant transformations which took place in the business over the past few years.
was central to the establishment of Cardtronics’ HR senior leadership team. This results from what the team often fondly refers to as Sharon’s “secret sauce” in leading the team, mentoring and coaching them while never compromising on her “task master” approach to quality of work. The HR senior leadership team now works across different levels of the business, and has overseen the on-boarding and development of talent around the world.
Secondly, Sharon’s leadership and understanding of the business were instrumental in Cardtronics’ expansion into Poland, Ireland and Spain. Sharon contributed in establishing a unique global vision and strategic plan which were key in recruiting across different markets. In turn, this has enabled Cardtronics to not only meet, but exceed its targets in a run of three very successful years for the business.
Each year, Personnel Today organizes The Personnel Today Awards, which aim to showcase the hard work of individuals who have made a positive impact for their companies and teams. This award is one of the most important and competitive awards in the UK HR sector and it compliments Sharon’s career, which spans over 25 years.
When receiving her award, Sharon said: "It's absolutely ecstacy! But this is not for me, it is for the team who has, I think, just responded to anything I have thrown at them. I have a great privilege in leading them and they are exceptional at delivering every single day - and not to miss a heartbeat!"
